|Hello, nice to see you here! |
This is the story about how Anne's Art Menagerie began...
One day in the summer of 2012, I was perusing my garden, camera in hand, in search of an interesting subject. Suddenly I spied a curious looking creature sitting on a bud at the tip of a tall plant. Upon closer examination, I realized it was a ladybug, and a yellow one with square shaped spots at that! Excited with my discovery, I aimed my camera and began snapping.
Propylea quatuordecimpunctata, also called the 14-spotted ladybug
I continued capturing photos of the fast moving beetle as she strolled over to a large milkweed leaf and stopped for a moment to rest. After a short while, she continued on her way and disappeared into the array of foliage in the garden.
Once she was gone, I took the opportunity to sit and look at the photos I had taken. Inspired by the whimsical looking beetle, I had an idea. I grabbed a pencil and pad of paper and began to draw. I drew a ladybug with square spots, and soon more ideas began to flow. It wasn't long before the pages of my notebook were filling with doodles.
Wanting to bring my art to digital form, I searched the Internet for a way to do so. My search led me to the free vector graphics software called Inkscape. Having tried vector tools in other art programs in the past without success, I was skeptical at first that it would work out. I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find Inkscape easy to learn. How fun it was to transform my simple doodles into colorful characters!
In 2014, I decided to join my siblings in creating art for their new online digital stamp and scrapbooking store, ILoveDigis.com. At the time, Halloween season was just around the corner, so I sharpened my pencil and got to work drawing pumpkins, cats, bats, ghosts, and more. With the help of Inkscape, I was able to complete three full Halloween collections in time for the grand opening!
At I Love Digis you'll find a variety of designs featuring the art of my sisters, my brother and I, on digital stamps, digital repeat patterns, and much more. Visit ILoveDigis.com (opens in a new window)
I've also been adding my drawings to products in my Zazzle.com store, Anne's Art. I started Anne's Art in 2002 as a way to offer my fractal art on posters, tshirts and greeting cards. My store now has a variety of designs on customizable products such as stickers, magnets, mugs, buttons, phone cases, note pads, tote bags, and more. My drawings can be found in the "Anne's Doodles" category of my store. Visit Anne's Art at Zazzle.com (opens in a new window)
Well, I hope you enjoyed the story of how my imagination was sparked by a little yellow ladybird! I still have lots of doodles that I need to finish, so stay tuned!
